- A loving owner!
- A companion, Of the Piggy variety (never a rabbit, their needs are far too differnet and can result in injury).
- Large hutch/cage minimum of 4'x 2' x 1' high for 2 Piggies. DO NOT USE A CAGE WITH A WIRE BOTTOM.
- A suitable place for your Piggies to reside. A nice calm populated place where they can be close to human contact. Perhaps your front room? Somewhere bright and draft-free with a stable temperature range between 65 and 75 degrees F (18 to 24C), out of direct sunlight, not in front of a window or in a very hot conservatory.
- Good quality food - all the Guinea Pigs here are fed on nuggets.
- Good quality hay (lots of it). I can put you in contact with a cheap supplier with 5 star quality hay.
- Pet carrier to travel to the rodentologist.
- Nail clippers. (many people would rather pay a rodentoligist to do their claws as it can be tricky) I can also do this for you.
- Soft brush/comb.
- Heavy ceramic bowls for dry and fresh food (so they can't be tipped over). Wash daily.
- Water bottle, bottle brush.
- Pet safe disinfectant.
- Absorbent bedding, eg: shredded paper, vet bed , hay, aubiouse, megazorb, fleece blankets, etc (NOT sawdust as it causes respiratory problems by drying up the mucous membranes, or straw which could causes poke injurys to the eyes.) . We personally use towel/fleece pads (available to order from us), with megazorb in litter trays.
- Shampoo. (See fundraising).
- Toys, and lots of them! (See toys).
- A place to hide. (See toys).
- Safe outdoor enclosure that is easy to move around the garden. Piggies make great lawnmowers! Make sure it sits flat on the floor to prevent escapes, also make sure it has a lid to prevent preditors from getting to your precious Piggies.
- Indoor playpen/run (for those cold winter days). Baby play pens work great. Make sure they cant escape!
Although Piggies can be kept outside we do not promote this. They are much happier inside where they get interaction with people. After all, who wants to go outside in the freezing cold. You will be less likely to want to go out to feed them and play with them in the rain.
